Every blogger has a reason for putting up and maintaining their blogs. Otherwise, they’re most likely to end up getting bored and just simply relegating what they started into the attics of neglect. As for the reasons that fuels a blogger to do his stuff – make articles, publish and promote them, and simply keeping his site up and running, there are numerous things that comes to mind. Every reason is unique to each blogger, even if the essence is practically just the same. But how about you? What makes you tick as a blogger? What compels you to maintain that blog of yours?
Is it Money?
Making money online is probably one of the leading reason why someone starts a blog. I mean, let’s be practical andrealistic. Who wouldn’t want to earn money? I do, and I’d bet that you do too. There are numerous articles out there
that tells us about making money online. Even more about the personalities that made it BIG in the blogging world, like Darren Rowse and Yaro Starak to name a few. For me it all seems too good to be true and it all depends on how you perceive those “how to’s” and so-called “tips”. But of all the articles describing how to make money online, they certainly agree on one thing: if you want to make money online, you have to do your best and more to earn it. Perseverance and dedication seems to be the general consensus, and I simply bow to that. So, is it the promise of money that drives your blogging?
Is it Popularity?
If you’re an active blogger, you might already have heard of people getting famous through blogging. Darren Rowse, Yaro Starak, Seth Godin, John Chow to name a few. Is becoming popular your excuse for running your blog? If that’s the case then I suggest you’d better do some thinking. The people I’ve mentioned above didn’t get known in the blogging world overnight. Most of them started as nameless bloggers like you and me, persevered, then hit blogging gold in the long run. If you simply like to be popular, you might as well try auditioning for a talent search instead. I think your chances there are much higher than here.
Something Else?
Or is it just pure passion that you’re blogging right now? Your natural love for writing is what drives you towrite articles for your blog, day after day? Then I congratulate you if that’s the case. They always say here in the blogging world that a blogger without passion is not a blogger at all. Could you believe that? I could because I believe that passion is needed in order to accomplish things, not just in blogging but in your everyday life as well.
Summing it up, I could say that all of the things I’ve mentioned above are my blog fuel. Shocked? Yes, that’s it – Money, Popularity, and Passion. It would seem hypocritical if I’d say that I don’t want to earn money, or get popular. And passion is what drives me day after day, expressing myself through writing.
I may not get rich by blogging, nor get recognized in the blogging world. But as I long that I have the freedom to express myself, then I’m happy.

I have a friend who does not talk much, but can express her feelings and thoughts very well in writing. I guess the idealistic answer for why one blogs is the passion to write. For me, the reason why I would want to start blogging is to learn more about the online world, and I’m glad so far I’m enjoying learning. Don’t know if I could earn from my blogging yet, have a long way to go.

I like to talk too much, so since no one wants to listen to me anymore I took to the internet. to find a new audience. HA HA Just kidding. I just do it because I have always loved writing. I’ve actually been doing it for a long time, but in other mediums. I just started my fun personal blog (my other one is on home organization). I think I could write for the fun site daily without batting an eye because I just love it.

That’s wonderful! Your humor. I mean.
I, too, loves to write but am not a talkative creature in person. I’m often tagged as a snob and a loner just because I don’t talk much and keeps to myself most of the time. But I do love to write, and it’s where I vent my insights and opinions in life.
I’m not sure why but I just find it a lot easier for me to write than talk about the things I want.
I think my thoughts come out better in writing than in talking, but I think that is because I can edit out the rambling part that would come in the talking version.
Glad you can express yourself in writing. Love your blog!

Oh, as for why I blog…
I really love to write. And I love to make people laugh with my writing. I also love talking about adolescent life (middle-school and high-school) because I tutor kids right now, and it just interests me so much how awkward and funny we all once were when we were at that age – just looking to fit-in everywhere and find ‘an identity’ for ourselves.
As such, I feel like my site accomplishes a lot of what I like to do all into one!
I get to add my little snippets of random, witty commentary as well as share with the world bits and pieces of adolescent euphoria from old letters, notes, and pictures from people’s old yearbooks!
Sorry, that was a bit long-winded. haha

It’s nice to hear that the love for writing’s what drives some to put up a blog. Humor is good also, not just in blogs but in everything you do in life as well. In proper amounts, it lightens up things that may seem heavy and best of all, it relieves stress.
It’s also nice to hear that your site reflects all you wanted to put into it. Many bloggers nowadays tend to carve their personal blogs into their chosen niches. I don’t blame them because I believe in the equality of reasons behind things that we do. But for me, what the hell – this is my personal blog and I’ll write whatever I want to write on it. Haha..
Don’t worry about being long-winded on your comment. That’s what it’s here for, to be able to interact with the blogging community.
Great post! I love how you keep it very real as well regarding your own motivations. You wouldn’t happen to be Pinoy would you? If so, mabuhay!

Thanks Jonathan for dropping by! I am 100 percent Pinoy and proud to be one!
Hi Julius,
I set up my own website to showcase my work and earn online through blogging and maybe little commission work on the side. I think I’m the last of my designer peers who set up a portfolio site so I think its time to have a domain I call my own. I like to customize my homepage from time to time, its also a good outlet and hobby and brings out the creativity in me and blog about stuff I discover along the way as I customize my page.

Thanks Cindy for dropping by! You have a really nice looking site, and it’s also good that you’ve decided to set up your own domain. I am also a freelance graphics designer, though I’m on the advertising side and just learning the ropes on web design. It’s really nice to know that Filipino designers are starting to set up their blogs here and there, delving into the blogging world.
I also like to tinker around with my theme from time to time, trying to apply some design techniques I read from the web. I don’t have any formal education on web design and just rely on research and reading whenever I want something done with my blog.
Julius,
I use blogging as a creative outlet. I get a chance to write/talk about things that interest me. If anybody out there is into it, that’s a big plus.
Nice work,
Chris
Thanks Chris for dropping by and sharing you thoughts with us. I also use blogging as a way to express my feelings and opinions towards things. It’s gives me that much pleasure to be able to say what I feel through writing even if it means nobody would read it nor hear about it. Making money or being popular doesn’t even come close.
I can answer this question three ways, I love to gadgets, technology and the fact that you can make some money online. This is my motivation for DragonBlogger.com site. For my ranting, raving or sharing my personal insights, opinions and diary I use my personal site.
As a poet I couldn’t get my work published, I have been writing poems for decades, and now with my poetry blog I can share my art with the world which I do just for the enjoyment of it.

Thanks Justin for dropping by! It’s nice to hear there are still a lot of passion-driven bloggers like you out here in the blogosphere. I’ve seen your site and some of the poems you wrote. I also like writing poems and made some of them myself when I was still in college, though I wouldn’t consider myself as a poet…
